A cat earns the title of grand champion (GC) or grand premier (GP) in the Cat Fanciers' Association by defeating 200 other champions/premiers in class judging or best in show finals. A cat becomes a champion/premier after it has won six "winners" ribbons in its breed class. "Opens" are cats who are not yet champions/premiers and who obtain winners ribbons in class judging. Once a cat has earned six winners ribbons from six different judges, it is transferred to champion/premier and competes for points towards its grand title.
